The Buchanan County Courts serve as part of Virginia’s 29th Judicial District. These courts consist of a Circuit Court, a General District Court & a Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. These are all trial courts. Each Court has its own Judges and its own specific jurisdiction. The Buchanan judges preside over a variety of cases all unique to the jurisdiction of their particular court. - Terms begin, 2nd Monday, Jan., April, July, & Oct. (Court term begins on Tuesday in October due to the Monday holiday.)

- Civil Term begins, 2nd Tuesday Jan., April, July, & Oct.
- Grand Juries, 2nd Monday, Jan., April, July, & Oct.
- All Cases set at early docket call on 4th Thursday preceding Term and on Term Day.
- Court convenes 9:00 a.m.
- Commissioners in Chancery are utilized primarily in cases dealing with partition suits.
