Terms of Circuit Court and General Information
- Court convenes 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise notified.
- Criminal and Civil terms begin 1st Tuesday in January, March, May, July, September and November at 9:00 a.m.
- Grand Juries are convened on the 1st day of Term.
- Criminal bench dockets are scheduled the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Monday, and by the Commonwealth’s Attorney at 11:00 a.m. on Term Day.
- Traffic appeals are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Term Day.
- All criminal and civil single day jury trails are scheduled by agreement of the parties through the Court Administrator (804)733-2423 or 11circuit@vacourts.gov. Both parties must appear at Term Day to schedule multiple day jury trails when the parties are unable to agree upon a date.
- Civil bench cases are scheduled by agreement of the parties through the Court Administrator (804)733-2423 or 11circuit@vacourts.gov or by appearance of the parties at Term Day.
- The Court does not utilize commissioners in chancery of judge pro tempore except by motion.
- All requested to continue cases or appearances at term day must be by written motion filed with the clerk.
- Certified copies of orders are mailed, via US mail, to counsel/moving litigants. Certified copies of orders are mailed to all other parties upon request or as directed by a Court order. It is requested that counsel/litigants provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.
