The Westmoreland County Courts serve as part of Virginia’s 15th Judicial District. These courts consist of a Circuit Court, a General District Court & a Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. These are all trial courts. Each Court has its own Judges and its own specific jurisdiction. The Westmoreland County VA judges preside over a variety of cases all unique to the jurisdiction of their particular court. The Westmoreland County Circuit Court is the trial court with the broadest powers and also hears cases appealed from the district courts. Terms of Circuit Court and General Information
- Term Day will be held the 4th Friday in January, April, July & October with Grand Jury/Criminal Docket at 9:00 a.m. and Civil Term/docket at 11:00 a.m.
- Cases are set on Term Day by praecipe.
- Criminal Docket: 2nd Wednesday, all Fridays.
- Civil Docket: 1st, 3rd and 4th Thursdays.
- Motions are scheduled through Judge’s Chambers.
- In civil jury trials, instructions must be submitted to the court and opposing counsel 5 days prior to trial.
