The Lynchburg Courts serve as part of Virginia’s 24th Judicial District. These courts consist of a Circuit Court, a General District Court & a Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. These are all trial courts. Each Court has its own Judges and its own specific jurisdiction. The Lynchburg judges preside over a variety of cases all unique to the jurisdiction of their particular court. The Lynchburg Circuit Court is the trial court with the broadest powers and also hears cases appealed from the district courts. The right to trial by Jury is only in the Lynchburg Circuit Court. - Criminal Terms begin, 1st Monday every month.
- Civil Terms begin, 1st Monday monthly.
- Grand Juries, 1st day of Term.
- All cases set on Term Day; Criminal – 9:00 a.m., Civil – 1:30 p.m.
- Civil cases can be set outside of Civil Docket call by contacting the Judicial Assistant to the Judges.
- Court convenes 9:00 a.m.
- Commissioners in Chancery are utilized in limited instances.
- Motion Day, 2nd & 4th Fri. after Term day, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. by appointment.
- Misdemeanor appeals – 1st two days after opening day of Term.
